EPR (Evolutionary Power Reactor) type reactors are 3rd generation nuclear power plants developed and designed by Framatome and Siemens. Their objectives are to be safer and more economically profitable installations than the plants currently in operation.
Pharea is involved in both the sizing of lifting equipment for fuel handling and the validation of neutron shielding for radiation confinement.
Since its inception, Pharea has been involved in the development and validation of equipment for EPRs under construction worldwide:
- Olkiluoto in Finland
- Taishan in China
- Flamanville in France
- Hinkley Point in England
Some examples of projects led by PHAREA within the framework of new EPR-type installations:
- Sizing and validation of neutron barriers for Taishan and Flamanville
- Sizing and validation of all pools for the UK EPR
- Validation of fuel transfer systems for the Flamanville EPR
